Ensuring Quality Programs

Resident and non-resident institutions must follow specific procedures when submitting new degree programs for review.

The Campus Alberta Quality Council reviews proposals for new degree programs to ensure they are of high quality before they are approved by the Minister. The time it takes for Council to make a recommendation to the Minister is affected by various factors, such as:

The completeness of the institution’s final proposal
Whether or not an organizational evaluation is required before the program review
The type of review undertaken – whether a partially or fully expedited review
The time it takes to recruit external reviewers and establish a site visit date mutually agreeable to all reviewers and the institution
Whether or not the institution is asked to provide further refinements of the proposal

Council conducts different types of reviews, depending on whether an organizational, program or desk review is needed.
